To some this may be surprising information, but using interpreters is the law.
To meet the standards of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), you are legally required to provide a certified interpreter for anyone who is deaf or has a hearing disability.
Additionally, to adhere to the Civil Right Act of 1964 and the Executive Order 13166 all organizations that receive federal funding are required to provide language access to Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals.
Lastly, Section 1557 is the nondiscrimination provision of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The law prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in certain health programs or activities.
