We at HandsUp Communications are thrilled to announce the return of a cherished tradition: the Silent Weekend Conference! Happening on July 11th to 14th, 2024, in Orlando, Florida, this conference is for sign language professionals from across the United States.
Our primary goal is to provide world-class professional development for sign language professionals. The conference will offer more than 20+ hours of direct instruction (exceeding 2.0 CEUs)! For sign language interpreters, which would more than satisfy the CEU requirements for 1 year of the RID four-year cycle. Plus attendees will have an unique opportunity to network with their colleagues and leading experts in the field.
For those unfamiliar with this tradition, the conference takes inspiration from the iconic “silent weekends” pioneered by Maureen and Mike, a lovely couple who hosted these events annually in the same Florida hotel. They would attract a diverse crowd, from interpreters, students, and parents of deaf children, to actors, comedians, and professionals from all walks of life; all converging to immerse themselves in sign language. Their events drew as many as 400-500 participants!
However, as the global pandemic intensified and Maureen passed, the event was put on hiatus. Mike then understandably chooses not to continue these weekends without his partner. The loss of this event left a gaping hole in the community, which is why Hands Up Communications has decided to bring it back!
The Silent Weekend Conference is a sanctuary for parents seeking guidance, a launchpad for fresh graduates, and a community for continual learning for experienced interpreters.

As a vendor at our conference, you’ll have the chance to showcase your products and services to a focused audience, including Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals, educators, interpreters, and parents of Deaf children.
We understand the importance of meaningful interactions, which is why vendor spaces at the conference are deliberately limited. This ensures an intimate environment where vendors can engage in-depth with attendees. Spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage interested vendors to act quickly to secure their spot. Learn more about vendor opportunities and how to sign up here.
