Hands Up: A Growing Company With a Growing Vision

Around mid July, we were practically bursting out of our seams. I’m not talking about our clothes, I’m talking about our old office space. With only 5 full-time employees just a year ago, Hands Up now has roughly 30 employees and hundreds of independent contractors. As personal space became a luxury in our lower office, we knew it was time to make the move. Before we knew it, Hands Up Communications had doubled in size.

On December 5th, Hands Up Communications’ CEO Sue Tyrrell cut the red ribbon in honor of our new office expansion. Now with an upper and lower space, we’ve reached a very important landmark for our company. In the end, it lets us know our vision is becoming a reality.

We celebrated with help.

To no one’s surprise, the event itself turned out to be quite diverse. Our guests created an interesting mixture of different organizations, businesses, and various community members. With the support of the Economic Alliance, we proudly showed off both our old and new spaces. In addition to trying exotic dishes from around the world, guests also got the chance to meet the Hands Up team, and put faces to names. Not to mention, an inside look at our 5 language access services.

Now what?

We have already started making use of our new space. In the new upstairs office, our leadership and scheduling team is settling into their new environment quite nicely. The downstairs space that once housed our whole company, is now being used for individual interpreter offices, as well as a dedicated space for team and community training. With the recent announcement of “Hands Up Deaf Services”, we also look forward to using our new space to further increase Hands Up’s role in the Deaf Community.

Believe it or not, we actually look forward to what we do on a daily basis. At the end of the day, Hands Up Communications’ success is due to its  passionate team members, all focused on creating a better community. In fact, we take our community very seriously. People are the driving force behind what we do, and why we do it. By sticking to our core values and striving to have a positive impact, Hands Up hopes to be cutting another red ribbon in the near future.
